The E-Marketing-Manager replaces the Newsletter V2 module. The switch can be carried out while the shop is running, because both systems can run side by side for a while and you initially make the new one visible only in test mode.

What the E-Marketing-Manager can do in addition

  • new message editor with revised plugins
  • registration for target groups in the ordering process
  • order-dependent filtered sending
  • verification email on unsubscribing can be switched off
  • information email on successful unsubscription
  • emails including the HTML header area can be edited
  • blacklist entry can be restricted to subscribers
  • verification emails can be grouped by subshop
In addition, there is a revised user interface with context-sensitive help for all important functions.

Step 1: Check the prerequisites

The E-Marketing-Manager must be activated by WEBSALE AG.
During the migration, nothing may be changed in the Newsletter V2 module, meaning no newsletters may be created and no sending may be started. Coordinate this with everyone who has access to the module before you begin.

Step 2: Extend the shop configuration

Add the <eMarketingManager> and <eMarketingManager-Txt> sections to the shop.config. Guide: E-Marketing-Manager

Step 3: Create the templates

Create the four templates of the E-Marketing-Manager as described on the integration page. If you want to keep using the same shop templates as before, separate the two ExternInclude calls from each other for the duration of the migration. To do so, enter the template names from the Newsletter V2 module in the <eMarketingManager> section and wrap the calls in brackets.
ST-Test checks the design test mode, not the shop’s general test mode. A call with ?test=on alone will therefore still show you the old module. You must switch on the design test mode, otherwise you will be checking the entire migration on the wrong system.
The point of these brackets is that your customers continue to see the old module unchanged throughout the migration, while you test the new one on the same template.

Step 4: Adapt the verification emails

The grouping of the verification emails has changed, so the old emails cannot be carried over. Copy the source code of the verification emails from the Newsletter V2 module and paste it into the emails of your new verification group. This is done in the online service area.

Step 5: Run functional tests

Check the new templates in design test mode, for example by registering for a target group.
If you receive the message that the service is not yet configured correctly, first check whether the subshop has already been assigned to a verification group in the online service area. This is the most common cause.

Step 6: Remove the old and release the new

Only once the tests have been completed:
  1. Remove the <NewsletterV2> and <NewsletterV2-Txt> sections from the shop.config.
  2. Delete the templates that are no longer needed.
  3. Remove the ST-Test brackets from step 3 so that all visitors see the new module.
Only remove the brackets once you have removed the sections of the old module and the new templates are in place. Otherwise, your customers will see no newsletter form at all for the duration of the switch.

Step 7: Have the old module switched off

Inform WEBSALE AG so that the service for the Newsletter V2 module is switched off. Only then is the migration complete.
