The following describes the most important steps when creating and editing configurations to define the desired shop settings. The page guides you from creating a configuration through activation to the topics of comments, HTML code, backups, and test configurations.
When creating new configurations, keep in mind that the file names are fixed by WEBSALE.
Creating and editing configurations
Creating, viewing, and editing configurations is done in the Online Service Area (OSB) via the “Configuration” service. There you will find dedicated configurations for the individual subshops as well as “global” configurations that apply to all subshops.
To create a configuration, first select the subshop (1) and then the “Create” icon. Enter the file name and click “Create”. The configuration is now created and can be edited.
To edit, first select the subshop (1) and then the corresponding configuration (2).
Depending on the configuration, you have the option to view or edit it and to create a backup so that, if necessary, you can return to the state before your changes. See Creating backups for details.
You make changes by clicking the Edit button (3) and making the desired additions, changes, or commented-out lines directly in the window. The configuration is locked for other users during this time. This means that it cannot be edited by other users until you have finished your editing process.
You will find more information under Working with the Online Service Area.
Activating configurations
If you have changed something in a configuration (1), you then need to activate the change for use (2). Until the change has been activated, the shop uses the previous, most recently activated version.
Activating a changed configuration consists of three steps:
You are guided through the three steps in the Online Service Area.
When checking the configuration, all changes made during editing are highlighted graphically, so that they can easily be followed.
In “.config” type configurations, you can insert comments, which must be marked with a leading hash (#). The comment extends from the hash to the end of the line. Anything before the hash is interpreted by the shop as configuration data. To comment out an entry currently used by the shop, you therefore only need to place a hash in front of the corresponding line.
Example of commenting out the parameter so that it is no longer used by the shop:

Inserting HTML code
In principle, it is permissible to use HTML code in configuration sections.
For example, HTML is used in the <NotifyMessages-Txt> section to mark success and error messages:
However, you must make sure that the line does not start with an HTML tag. The parser would interpret this as a section tag, which leads to errors and undesired effects. The following example is therefore incorrect:
If the line should start with an HTML tag, {WS-TplComment}{/WS-TplComment} must be placed before it. The parser then interprets the line correctly and it is processed and output correctly in the shop:
Creating backups
Backups can be created for every configuration that can be edited. Using such backups, you can, if necessary, restore an earlier state of a configuration to undo faulty or unwanted editing steps.
WEBSALE V8s automatically creates a backup of the shop configuration shop.config on every edit of the configuration.
You will find this backup and all manually created backups on the “Backups” tab in the OSB “Configurations” service. There, the desired backup can be selected for restoration. Backups that are no longer needed can also be deleted there.
Alternative configuration for tests
You have the option of calling up the shop with an alternative shop configuration for testing purposes. For more information, see Enabling and disabling shop test modes.
