# How does WEBSALE V8s work?

> The basic principle of WEBSALE V8s: every shop page is built from the four factors data, design, texts, and configurations.

With WEBSALE V8s you can immediately start adapting the already fully functional online shop to your requirements:

* Populate the shop with your products (product maintenance/data).
* Design it visually and functionally to match your ideas (design).
* Add the desired texts and labels (Textpflege).
* Configure the required address data, payment terms, and shipping costs (configurations).

Behind these four activities lies the basic principle of the shop system. WEBSALE assembles every shop page from the four elementary factors **texts**, **design**, **configuration**, and **data** as soon as it is called up:

Following this simple schema, any page can be generated with the desired data, texts, design, and configurations. Simple basic shops with core functionality are just as possible as sophisticated shops with a wide range of special features and graphical requirements for the demanding mail-order retailer. The basic principle remains the same. The WEBSALE shop system thus supports all user groups in an optimal way.

The following sections introduce the four factors one by one.

## Data: products and categories

The most important part of a shop is the products it offers. A product is represented in the shop by displaying its properties, such as name, description, price, and product images.

The product data can either be maintained manually in the WSP-Manager or transferred to the shop from a merchandise management system.

In addition, you should create categories to structure the range of products in your shop and to keep the shop clearly arranged.

A quick guide to creating and maintaining products and categories can be found under Working with the WSP-Manager.

## Design: templates and styles

The visual appearance and the functionality of the delivered shop can easily be adapted to your requirements. This includes, for example, the way products are displayed together with the desired product data:

For instance, the product image should be shown at the top left, the name, product number, short description, and price at the top right, and the detailed description below.

To avoid having to create a separate page for every product, WEBSALE uses templates with placeholders — the so-called tags.

You therefore only need to create one template (for example, for the product view) and insert the desired tags for the respective product data (name, price, and so on). No matter which product a customer opens: thanks to the tags, every product is presented in the same way, exactly as defined once in the template.

You can find further information under Basics of Templates and Basics of Tags.

## Texts: convenient text management

To ensure the shop is not limited to simply displaying products, texts and labels should increase the shop's informational value and usability. This includes button labels ("Continue", "Order with obligation to pay", and similar), notification and error messages ("Your selection has been placed in the cart"), and longer, informative texts such as the terms and conditions, the legal notice, and information on the right of withdrawal.

These texts can be entered and maintained statically directly in the templates. However, we recommend using the Textpflege platform.

## Configurations: basic settings and shop logic

The functional backbone of the shop is formed by the configurations. These are managed in the Online-Servicebereich (OSB). Among other things, the OSB is used to:

* manage basic shop settings, such as domains, character set, assigned templates, and various input validations,
* define commercial settings, such as the payment and shipping methods offered in the shop, along with their exact terms such as costs and required input fields,
* activate, deactivate, and configure various features and shop functions.
