# HTML comments

> HTML comments in WEBSALE V8s templates and the invisible comments with WS-TplComment that are removed from the source code at runtime.

HTML allows comments to be inserted at any position within an HTML file. Comments are ignored by web browsers, meaning they are not displayed. Comments are useful, for example, to record internal notes about changes and internal remarks at certain places in the source code, or to "comment out" parts of the document for testing purposes.

Even though HTML comments are ignored in the normal browser view, they are present in the source code. This increases the complexity of the online shop, which can make the work of search engine crawlers more difficult under certain circumstances. However, what search engines consider "unnecessary source code" is an indispensable tool for web designers and web developers.

## "Invisible" HTML comments

WEBSALE V8s solves this problem with "invisible" HTML comments. With the `WS-TplComment` tag you can store comments in the templates. In contrast to normal HTML comments, WEBSALE V8s always removes these sections at runtime so that they are stripped from the source code. This means no "unnecessary" source code is delivered to search engines.

>
> If you want to comment out WEBSALE tags and disable their function, they must be wrapped with `{WS-TplComment}...{/WS-TplComment}`. A normal HTML comment is not enough for this: the tags would still be processed by the shop.
