# Prices and costs

> Overview of all price-related topics of a shop, from the gross-or-net decision through product prices, shipping and payment costs to discounts and alternative currencies.

This page guides you through all topics that determine the price of a purchase. It starts with the fundamental decision between gross and net calculation, then goes through the three types of costs — product price, shipping costs, and payment costs — and concludes with discounts and the display in an alternative currency.

## Gross or net calculation for your prices and costs

When setting prices and costs in WEBSALE V8s, you must define in advance whether the prices are net, that is, excluding statutory VAT, or gross, that is, VAT already included in the price. This is the only way to ensure a correct VAT calculation in your shop.

## Product prices

The prices of a product can be maintained directly in the connected ERP system or, for manual product data maintenance, via the WSPManager, and then transferred to the shop via the product data import.

With WEBSALE V8s, you can assign different prices to your products:

* Current product price (sales price)
* Original price or strike-through price
* Tiered prices
* From-price or best price
* Online prices

## Shipping costs

Shipping costs are an important part of the sales strategy in e-commerce. It is therefore important that a flexible and fine-grained configuration of shipping methods is possible.

The most important setting here is shipping costs depending on the shipping destination (country or location), the weight, and the total price of the shopping cart. WEBSALE V8s gives you full flexibility.

For example, you can define shipping costs of €5.99 for Germany for cart values up to €49.99. Purchases from €50.00 upwards can then be offered free of shipping charges. It is also possible to charge shipping costs only above a certain weight or volume.

## Payment costs

In the online service area, in the Configuration service, you can add, edit, activate, or deactivate payment methods.

You can activate or deactivate payment methods not only for individual billing countries but also explicitly for delivery countries. You can also easily assign country surcharges to a payment method.

## Discounts

Information about the flexible handling of discounts with WEBSALE V8s can be found in a topic dedicated to this subject.

## Prices and costs in an alternative currency

In addition to the base currency, all prices and costs in the shop can be displayed in other currencies for the buyer's information. By default, the display uses a function that always accesses an up-to-date conversion table. This table contains the most frequently needed conversion rates and is updated daily.
