# Calling the release version

> How to test the upcoming version of the shop software with your productive shop data, how to recognize the release call, and how to check the build.

WEBSALE regularly delivers new software releases. A WEBSALE V8s release version — the release candidate — is the upcoming latest version of the V8s shop software. All software functions are already contained in a release version, and all known bugs have been fixed.

Here we describe how to test the respective release version with your shop data. First read the important notes, because the test runs on your productive data. This is followed by the call, the behavior on subsequent calls, and two ways of recognizing active release operation.

## Important notes

Please observe the following notes before calling your shop with the release version.

> [!WARNING]
>
> For the most realistic test environment possible, the release version uses the productive shop environment with the productive data. This means:
>
> * All data — for example customer data, templates, and configurations — and all data holdings, for example stock levels, correspond to those of the productive shop. Tests in the release version therefore affect your data.
> * Orders placed in the release version are real orders.

In the release version, the automatic search engine control tells search engines that indexing of the pages is prohibited. This means that `WS-RobotControl` will always output `noindex,nofollow`. This prevents page views with the URLs of the release version from ending up in search engines.

## Calling the release version

Depending on whether you use SEO URLs in your shop, the call of the release version differs.

### Calling the release version for shops with SEO URLs

Append the release path `websalev8s-releasecandidate/` to the shop domain.

Calling the productive version:

```text theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"},"languages":{"custom":["/languages/websale.json"]}}
https://mein-shop.de
```

Calling the release version:

```text theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"},"languages":{"custom":["/languages/websale.json"]}}
https://mein-shop.de/websalev8s-releasecandidate/
```

Alternatively, you can insert the release path into any URL after the domain, for example in a product URL.

Calling the productive version:

```text theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"},"languages":{"custom":["/languages/websale.json"]}}
https://mein-shop.de/mein-Produkt
```

Calling the release version:

```text theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"},"languages":{"custom":["/languages/websale.json"]}}
https://mein-shop.de/websalev8s-releasecandidate/mein-Produkt
```

### Calling the release version for V8s shops with parameter URL logic

For shops that do not use SEO URLs, the call parameter `websale8` must be replaced with `websalev8-releasecandidate`.

Calling the productive version:

```text theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"},"languages":{"custom":["/languages/websale.json"]}}
https://mein-shop.de/?websale8=ShopID
```

Calling the release version:

```text theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"},"languages":{"custom":["/languages/websale.json"]}}
https://mein-shop.de/?websalev8-releasecandidate=ShopID
```

## Subsequent calls

When the release version is called, all links generated by the shop system are automatically set so that subsequent calls within the session are also executed under the release version.

Within a session, you can switch between the productive and release versions at any time for comparison purposes by adjusting the call URL in the browser accordingly.

During your tests, check after each click whether the shop was called with the release version. You can recognize this by the URL or in the developer console, as described in the following section.

## Determining whether the shop was called with the release version

Using the URL in the browser, you can tell at any time whether the shop was called with the release or the productive version. If the string `websalev8s-releasecandidate` or `websalev8-releasecandidate` appears in the URL, you have called the shop with the release version.

Depending on whether the shop was called with SEO URLs or with parameter URLs, or whether a form was submitted, the URL looks different.

| Call | Productive version | Release version |
| - | - | - |
| SEO URLs | No prefix is placed before the URL path. Example: `https://mein-shop.de/mein-Produkt` | The URL path starts with `websalev8s-releasecandidate/` Example: `https://mein-shop.de/websalev8s-releasecandidate/mein-Produkt` |
| Parameter URL | The first parameter of the call URL, with which the ShopID is passed, is `websale8` Example: `https://mein-shop.de/mein-Produkt?websale8=meineShopID&pi=1234` | The first parameter of the call URL, with which the ShopID is passed, is `websalev8-releasecandidate` Example: `https://mein-shop.de/mein-Produkt?websalev8-releasecandidate=meineShopID&pi=1234` |
| After submitting a form | The URL path starts with `websale8` Example: `https://mein-shop.de/websale8/?Ctx=...` | The URL path starts with `websalev8-releasecandidate/` Example: `https://mein-shop.de/websalev8-releasecandidate/?Ctx=...` |

## Check the build of the release version

The build version of the shop software can be read out when the shop is in test mode. How to enable test mode is described in the guide [Enabling and disabling shop test modes](https://dokumentation.websale.de/en/testmodi-des-shops-ein-ausschalten.md).

The identifier is contained in the support information, which is present as a comment in the head area of the HTML code.

View as HTML source or in the Elements Inspector:

![Releasecandidates](https://mintcdn.com/websaleag-44ee7ea6/skgEiyBpkjLxNR4u/images/releasecandidates.jpg?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=skgEiyBpkjLxNR4u\&q=85\&s=d4115aa09e7091796dead91618bd5789)

The build number is located in the `version` parameter between the two hyphens after the main version V8s — for example, `2123`.

If this number is higher than when calling the productive version, then the shop is in the current release version.
